Mary DeMott has been a vauable member of our quilt committee for years! This year, she is single-handedly making about 50 tote bags which will be used as door prizes. Each bag has a block on it that relates to this year's show theme, "Grow me a garden". Members of our supporting groups pieced or appliqued flowers, leaves, and veggies and handed them over to Mary who spent hours and hours of time sewing them into 12" tote bags! Mary uses fabric from her own stash to make the bags and then will fill them with goodies. Where do the goodies come from? Mary sends letters to manufacturers, shop owners, and vendors, asking if they will donate items to use as door prizes, and boy do they respond. Batting, fabric bundles, patterns, rulers, notions, tools, and more! It is wonderful to see how so many businesses support our quilt show. It's even better to see the look of joy on someone's face when they find out that they won a door prize! Mary recently took a picture of the tote bags that she has finished so far. Maybe one will be yours?
